Widow of Secaucus UPS worker in court battling company over settlement
| 29 March 2010
The widow of a Secaucus UPS worker killed on the job six years ago is in court, fighting the national freight giant over the settlement in his death.
Francisco "Frank" Robles, 53, was crushed to death on July 22, 2004, when a driver in one of the company's trucks backed up his vehicle without realizing someone was behind him at the Secaucus facility.
Robles worked in the transportation department of UPS for 17 years as a feeder supervisor, UPS spokeswoman Deb Caldwell said at the time.
Robles' widow, Joanne Robles, of Midland Park, believed that she and UPS had reached an agreement on a monetary settlement, but UPS refused to sign off on it without a confidentiality clause, said Sam Davis, Robles' attorney. In October Davis filed a motion to enforce the settlement he says the two sides agreed upon -- one that did not include a gag order.
